Background
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (commonly known as Virginia Tech) is a research 1 university located in the southwest corner of Virginia.
From 2011-2016, I was a Senior Graphic Designer in the Office of Marketing and Communications, which offered institution-wide design support. In 2017, I reactivated my freelance business and was selected to be a "Preferred Vendor for Graphic Design and Illustration Services," a distinction I hold today.
Freelance projects for the Fralin Life Science Institute
I designed two new magazines: Explorer, their flagship publication (3 issues), and BioTrans, a smaller, program-specific magazine (1 issue). Covers and selected spreads below.
Explorer Spring 2019
Explorer Spring 2018
Explorer Fall 2018
BioTrans 2018
This new magazine stalled in the draft stage, but it's still worth sharing.
Freelance projects for the Virginia Cooperative Extension
The Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) is a partnership of Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and local governments. They publish hundreds of community resources on a variety of topics, such as sustainable farming practices, food safety techniques, and fostering leadership skills.
I managed multi-year contracts to update two large technical publications, each with over a dozen contributors, tables spanning many pages, and tight deadlines.
