Background
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II deadline is April 2026 for state and local government accessibility, demanding compliance not just in buildings, but across websites, apps, and all digital services. Capital Group hired Tamman, Inc. to fix their source documents and PDFs for compliance with Title II. I subcontracted as an accessible InDesign production lead.
Challenge

1500+ InDesign documents and PowerPoint decks from 24 divisions ranging from complex forms, fact sheets, fund-specific sales materials, retirement planning, client education, and annual reports in both English and French Canadian. High volume, high pressure, work in lockstep with QA team.
Outcome
artifact
All files delivered with a clean PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC) report in 12 months. Average time per file across the whole project: 2 hours 45 minutes.
Tech and tools
artifact
Adobe CC libraries organized the updated brand colors, accessible tables, and paragraph styles.
Axaio's InDesign plug-in MadeToTag made heading structure easy to scan, handled complex tables seamlessly, and kept track of several languages.
The Colour Contrast Analyser (CCA) overlay checked for contrast failures, custom InDesign scripts allowed for batch alt text automation, and internal remediation guidelines supported junior techs.
All charts, graphs, and infographics were fixed in Illustrator and PowerPoint.
It was a rewarding accessibility bootcamp!
